Door Unit Installation Guide
(For Drywalled or Trimmed Finish Openings)
Installing your Steel and Stone door unit is straightforward with the right tools and this step-by-step guide. Follow these instructions carefully for a seamless installation.
Tools Needed
- Level
- Impact drill with T-25 bit
- Phillips bit
- Multi-tool with wood-cutting blade
Step 1: Inspect the Components
Unbox all pieces and inspect them for any damages or broken glass. Address any concerns with our office before proceeding.
Step 2: Prepare the Glass
- Remove the back insert frame from each sidelight.
- Carefully remove the glass and place it on a blanket for protection.
- Set aside the provided clear glass blocks for reinstallation later.
Note: While tempered glass is strong, handle corners and edges with extra care.
Step 3: Assemble the Frame
- Locate the top rail.
- Attach the top rail to the top of each sidelight using the provided hex self-tapping screws.
- Ensure the sidelights are oriented correctly before securing.
Step 4: Address Baseboards (if applicable)
- If baseboards are present, mark and remove a section 1.625” or 3” wide where the door will sit in the opening.
- Alternatively, remove the baseboards entirely and reattach them after installation.
Step 5: Position the Frame
Place the frame in the opening and use a level to ensure it is plumb.
Step 6: Secure the Frame
Using the provided lag screws and shims, secure the frame to the studs through the ½” pre-drilled holes in each sidelight. Ensure the frame remains level throughout this step.
Step 7: Prepare the Hinges
- Slide brass spacers onto the male ends of the hinges.
- Apply the provided lubricant for smooth hinge operation.
Step 8: Attach the Doors
Seat the doors onto the hinges. (This step requires two people for safety and precision.) Close the doors and adjust the frame as necessary to ensure it is plumb and aligned.
Step 9: Reinstall the Glass
- Place the glass back into the sidelights, seating them on the clear rubber glass blocks.
- Secure the glass using the back insert frame and the provided black self-tapping screws.
Step 10: Install the Magnets
Attach the magnets to the top inside corners of the doors. Test the closure to ensure the magnets contact the frame and keep the doors securely closed.
Step 11: Attach the Center Strap
Position the center strap halfway on the front of the left door and secure it with the provided self-tapping screws.
Step 12: Enjoy Your New Steel and Stone Door!
Step back and admire your newly installed door.
